Plans
Free, Starter, Pro, Studio and Enterprise: what each is for, Plan and Billing in Settings, upgrading a Workspace, seats, changing what comes next and how you're billed, managing billing, and what happens if a payment fails.
A plan belongs to a Workspace, not to you. Every new Workspace starts on Free, and the same Workspace moves up to Starter, Pro or Studio: upgrading never makes a new one. The Workspace at the top of the sidebar shows each Workspace’s plan beside its name.
Plan, Usage and Billing
A Workspace’s commercial settings are three sections of Settings, under Workspace:
- Plan: the plan it’s on, what it becomes next, its seats, and the plans to choose from.
- Usage: what it has used this month, and what it stores (see Usage).
- Billing: payment and billing administration, for its Owner only.
Choose Workspace settings, then Plan, or follow the Plan link in Settings › Usage. At the top, Plan shows the plan the Workspace is on: its name, its seats, what it costs and, on Pro and Studio, its usage at those seats (for example “3 seats · $87/month · $75 of usage every month, in one shared pool”), and what happens next: Renews on a date, Ends on a date (and what that means), or Moves to a lower plan on a date.
Free, Starter, Pro and Studio are side by side, with Monthly, Quarterly and Yearly to choose how you pay. Each shows its price a month, with what is billed under it. Quarterly saves 10% and yearly 20%. Prices are in US dollars, before tax, and every amount on the page comes from our current plans.

- Free ($0, no card needed) is for trying Otherspace: a one-off $5 of usage to start, 3 active Spaces, Canvas editing and sharing Canvases by view-only link. The $5 comes once per account (accounts made before the Public Beta keep the $10 they were given), with the first Workspace you own. You can own one Workspace on Free: another Workspace you make needs a paid plan, and Workspaces you’ve been invited to don’t count. Just you.
- Starter is for making things every month on your own: $10 of usage every month, 20 active Spaces, and two generations at once. One seat, yours; you can invite Guests to view your work, free.
- Pro is billed by the seat, from 1 to 100. Each seat adds $25 of usage a month to one pool the whole Workspace spends from. Unlimited Spaces. Guests who view are free; a Guest who can edit takes a seat. No Members, Admins or Teams.
- Studio is billed by the seat, from 2 to 100. Each seat adds $45 of usage a month to one shared pool. It works with everyone: Members, Admins, Guests and Teams, with role-based access to Spaces.
- Enterprise, below them, is for larger teams and clients with their own needs: custom pricing, custom workflows and pipelines, tailored onboarding, dedicated support and custom terms. It’s a conversation, not a checkout: choose Book a call.
A paid plan’s usage is monthly whichever way you pay: it starts the day you subscribe and renews on that date each month, even on a yearly plan. On Pro and Studio, unused monthly usage rolls over for one or two months; on Starter it doesn’t carry over. Every plan can add usage that never expires.
Only the Workspace’s Owner can change its plan. Anyone else sees “Only the Workspace’s Owner can change its plan.”
Plans bought before 1 November 2026
A Workspace that bought Pro or Studio before the plans above keeps the plan it bought, at its price, for as long as it renews: nobody is moved. That Pro is $29 a month with $25 of usage and Guests who view; that Studio is $45 a seat with $30 of usage a seat, pooled. Neither has a set storage limit. Plan shows the plan as it is. Choosing Upgrade to Studio from that Pro moves it to today’s Studio, as any upgrade does.
Upgrading
- Choose Monthly, Quarterly or Yearly, then Upgrade to the plan on its card.
- For Pro and Studio, choose how many seats. You need one for the Owner, each Admin and Member, and each Guest who can edit or manage something (a Guest who can only view is free). The dialog starts at the fewest you can have (Studio’s is 2) and shows what the seats cost at the billing you chose, and the usage they give: “3 × $29 = $87 a month” and “$75 of usage every month, in one shared pool”. Starter has one seat, yours: the dialog shows its price and its $10 of usage.
- From Free, choose Continue to checkout. You go to Stripe’s secure checkout to pay by card, and you can add a business name and tax ID for your invoices. Once you’ve paid, you’re back in the Workspace’s Home. A moment later it’s on the plan, and a message says Plan updated to it. It’s the same Workspace, not a new one.
- From a paid plan (Starter to Pro or Studio, Pro to Studio), choose Upgrade now: the subscription moves to the new plan straight away, billed the same way (monthly, quarterly or yearly) as before, and you’re charged the difference for the rest of the current billing period. There’s no second checkout. Its seats carry over, raised to the new plan’s fewest: a 1-seat Pro becomes a 2-seat Studio. The new plan’s usage starts at once, replacing this month’s.
If you cancel at checkout, you’re back in Plan: nothing changes and nothing is charged. If a checkout runs out of time, it says so there too.
On Studio, Members and Teams appear in the sidebar, and you can invite people. If the plan you upgrade from was set to end, upgrading means you want it to continue: once the new plan is paid for, the end is cleared and it renews. If your bank asks you to confirm the payment, the plan still ends as it was set to until the payment is made.
Only the Workspace’s Owner can upgrade it. Moving to a lower plan isn’t an upgrade: it happens at the renewal (see Changing what comes next).
Seats
Pro and Studio Workspaces pay for Full seats: one for the Owner, each Admin and Member, and each Guest who can edit or manage something. A Guest who can only view needs none. Each person needs one seat at most, however much they can open. Each seat adds its plan’s usage to one pool the whole Workspace spends from.
Plan › Seats shows how many are paid for, how many are in use (counting invitations not yet accepted) and, if fewer are scheduled, how many there will be from the renewal. The Owner changes them there, between the plan’s fewest and most (Pro 1 to 100, Studio 2 to 100):
- More seats are charged now, for the rest of the billing period. Each adds its usage for the rest of this month straight away: its month’s usage × the days left ÷ the days in the month. From the next month, each adds its full usage.
- Fewer seats take effect at the renewal. Until then you keep the seats you’ve paid for, and their usage; nothing is refunded. You can’t go below the seats in use, or the plan’s fewest.
- Changing your mind before the renewal (back to the seats you have) cancels the reduction: nothing is charged and no usage is added.
If your bank asks you to confirm a payment
Some banks ask you to confirm a payment (3-D Secure). If yours does when you add seats or upgrade from a paid plan, nothing changes yet. Plan says the change is waiting for your payment, and a banner says so across the top of the app. Choose Complete payment: Stripe’s payment page opens in a new tab, where you confirm the payment with your bank. Once it’s paid, the change is made, and the extra usage arrives.
If it isn’t paid within about a day (or by the end of your billing period, if that’s sooner), the change is dropped and nothing is charged. You can ask for it again.
If inviting someone, changing a role, sharing with someone or adding them to a Team needs a seat that isn’t paid for, it says A Full seat is required. The Owner can choose Add a seat; anyone else is asked to ask the Owner. Seats set up for you by us are changed by us.
Changing what comes next
The Workspace’s Owner changes its plan in Plan. An upgrade happens at once; moving to a lower plan, or ending the paid plan, happens when what you’ve paid for ends. Until then, what’s scheduled shows on the plan cards as the plan’s future: the card it leads to says Scheduled for its date, the current plan offers Keep it, and every other card still offers itself instead. Each change is confirmed first, saying when it happens, what stays until then, what changes and what you’re billed. Nothing is refunded for the period you’ve paid for.
| On a paid plan, scheduled | Free card | A lower plan’s card | Current plan’s card | A higher plan’s card |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| nothing | End it | Move to that plan | Current plan | Upgrade to that plan |
| to end | Scheduled | Move to that plan on its date | Keep it | Upgrade to that plan |
| a lower plan | End it instead | Scheduled (on that plan’s card) | Keep it | Upgrade to that plan |
Moving to a lower plan
Choose Move to a lower paid plan on its card: Studio to Pro or Starter, Pro to Starter. The Workspace stays on its plan, with everyone in it, until the end of what you’ve paid for; then it moves to the lower plan, billed the same way (monthly, quarterly or yearly). A plan billed by the seat renews at the fewest seats that fit: its own fewest, or the seats in use. Plan says it Moves to that plan on that date, and a banner says so too. If the plan was set to end, Move to … on its date replaces the end: the Workspace continues on the lower plan instead.
The Workspace has to fit the lower plan before you can move. Nobody is ever removed for you; if anything is in the way, the confirmation says what and opens Members or Teams for you:
- Pro or Starter: no Members or Admins besides you, no invitations for them, and no Teams.
- Starter: no Guests who can edit (Guests on Starter view only), and no more than 20 active Spaces.
While the move is scheduled you can’t add people the lower plan wouldn’t have, or change seats, and you can’t move while fewer seats are scheduled.
Choose Keep your plan (in Plan, or on the banner) to stay on it.
Changing how you’re billed
On a paid plan you bought, choose Change billing in Plan to be billed Monthly, Quarterly or Yearly instead, each with what it bills at your seats. It changes at the renewal: the plan and its seats stay the same, nothing is charged or refunded now, and usage still renews every month. Plan says Billed yearly from the renewal date (or however you chose) until then; Keep monthly billing (or however it’s billed now) undoes it.
While it’s scheduled you can’t change seats, upgrade or move to a lower plan: keep how it’s billed now first. Ending the plan drops the change. You can’t change it while the plan is set to end, while another change is scheduled for the renewal, or while a payment is due.
Ending a paid plan
Choose End your plan on the Free plan in Plan. It ends at the end of what you’ve paid for: until then nothing changes, and Plan says when it ends. Wherever you work in that Workspace, a banner tells its Owner when it ends and what happens then:
- Starter and Pro go back to Free. Your work stays. Guests can’t open anything in it any more, but they’re kept: if you upgrade again, they can.
- Studio becomes read-only (see below).
Usage that rolled over ends with the plan. Usage you bought stays.
Choose Keep your plan to keep it: it renews as before. If a change was waiting for your payment when you end it, it’s dropped and nothing is charged for it. If a move to a lower plan was scheduled, End Studio instead keeps it Studio to the end, so it becomes read-only, not the lower plan.
Managing billing
Billing, in Settings, is for the Workspace’s Owner only; nobody else sees it. Once you’ve bought anything for a Workspace (a plan or usage), it shows:
- Next payment: what the plan renews for, and when. Nothing is due once the plan is set to end.
- Payment method: the card it’s paid with.
- Billing details: who invoices are for, the address and any tax ID.
- Billing history: the last 12 invoices, with their date, number, amount and status (Paid, or Due while one is waiting to be paid). View opens the invoice on Stripe’s page, and PDF downloads it.
All of it is Stripe’s, read each time you open Billing; Otherspace keeps none of it. Manage, beside the payment method or the billing details, opens Stripe’s billing page for the Workspace, where you change your card or your billing details, then return to Billing. Plans and seats are changed in Plan, never there.
If a payment fails
If a renewal payment fails, nothing changes for anyone while Stripe tries the payment again, except that the new month’s included usage waits until the payment goes through. Usage says so; usage that rolled over, usage you bought and usage you were given still work. The Workspace’s Owner sees A payment for the plan failed across the top of the app. When the renewal’s invoice is open, Complete payment opens Stripe’s payment page in a new tab, to pay it (confirming with your bank if it asks); otherwise Manage billing opens Stripe’s billing page to update the card. Once a payment goes through, the notice goes.
If the payments keep failing, the subscription ends, as it does at the end of a cancelled plan:
- Starter and Pro go back to Free. Nothing you’ve made is removed.
- Studio becomes read-only. Everyone in it can still open its Spaces and Canvases, download what’s in them and share by link, and links already shared keep working. Nothing in it can be changed: no edits, uploads or generations, no new Spaces and no invitations. You can still remove people, and anyone can leave. Everyone sees that it’s read-only across the top of the app. Your Drafts are your own, so they stay yours to change.
Usage you bought stays with the Workspace either way; usage that rolled over ends with the plan.
Resubscribing
The Owner of a read-only Studio Workspace chooses Resubscribe (across the top, or in Plan), then the seats, at least the plan’s fewest and one for everyone who needs one, and pays through Stripe. The same Workspace is back on Studio, with everything in it, and with any usage bought before.
